Special Olympics b-ball players net second place in Baxter
On Saturday, March 20 Perham Area Special Olympics took three basketball teams to Baxter, MN to play in the regional Special Olympics Basketball Tournament.
The full court team containing Eric Christianson, Carlos Cooper, Tyler Devries, Jeff Fritz, Cody Jacobson, Justin Hofland, Ryan Schattschneider, Mike Stoltenberg and Tom Vezner played against St. Cloud, Brainerd, and Elk River.
The full court team had three top scorers for the tournament: Carlos Cooper, Mike Stoltenberg and Tom Vezner. The team came in second place.
Two half court teams competed in different divisions. The Timberwolves consisted of Lindsey Buehler, Joe Jesuit, Tyler Olsen, Troy Tierney, and Philip Tweeton; high scorer was Joe Jesuit. They competed against Hutchinson, Monticello, Kandi, and Roccori, placing second.
The Otters half court team members are Josh Boyer, Lance Harjes, Mike Moe, Duane Muckey, and Randy Johnson. This team played Hutchinson and Kandi, placing second also. Duane Muckey was high scorer for The Otters.
Full court team nabs first at Perham tournamen
On Thursday, March 11 Perham hosted the Area 4 Special Olympic Basketball Tournament. Ninety-two athletes from Crookston, Fergus Falls, Moorhead, Pelican Rapids and Perham competed at the Perham Area Community Center in individual skills and team play.
Each athlete competed against other athletes at his/her skill level in individual skills consisting of 10 Meter Dribble, Target Pass, and Spot Shot.
Full court teams and half court teams played in the afternoon. Perham's full court team took first. The Otters half court team took first; and The Timberwolves took second.
This tournament was made possible with the help of many local volunteers and people who donated goods for the tournament.
